Narration is fun… and characters even more so!
All this started when, as a child, I memorised about ten fantasy films off by heart - Harry Potter, LOTR, Disney, Dreamworks… you get the picture. Such repetition can only be accomplished by someone who has nothing else to do. I’m glad I did, and even more glad that the love for it hasn’t wavered.
RP British accent
(Pride & Prejudice - Jane Austen)
I get a chuckle out of Mr Darcy’s quiet disdain and gruff intelligence here. It is clear to him that the rapturous Miss Bingley isn’t quite as rarefied as she herself believes…
Science Narration (Universe in a Nutshell - Stephen Hawking)
My academic science background helps me understand challenging source material quickly, and read it to the listener with appropriate emphasis to communicate complex ideas. I am also able to suggest edits if required.
Epic Poetry - Narration, Dark (The Iliad - Homer)
The “greatest story ever told” in western literature. The most characters I’ve ever voiced in one project. This Robert Fagles translation balances narrative flow and accessibility with dramatic language and accuracy.
Children’s + characters (Grandpa’s Great Escape - David Walliams)
Young and old - I love this intimate scene of Grandpa and little Jack imagining planes flying overhead… to the displeasure of mum!
Indian accent
(Age of Vice - Deepti Kapoor)
I was raised in the UK and born in India, and feel confident in providing a sliding scale of Indian accent strengths, ensuring characters are realistic without being caricatures. This authenticity is important.
Fantasy - characters
(The Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien)
A terrified Frodo Baggins discusses with a weary Gandalf about the looming threat in Mordor. A timeless classic which uses a wide vocal texture range.
Children’s + northern accents young and old
(The BFG - Roald Dahl)
The big friendly giant speaks with little Sophie about the very important job of his: catching wondrous dreams for children all over the world. It wouldn’t be possible without his big ears!
YA characters - Harry Potter (J.K. Rowling)
I love voicing multiple characters in conversation! Adapting to the pacing, patterns and humour is huge fun. Here, the famous trio discuss how to resist the incomptent but dangerous Professor Umbridge.
YA - darker tone (Jason Sheehan)
A pulsating introduction sees “the boy” escaping from the police, who wouldn’t be sad to see him fall ten stories to the ground…
