Halloween and the actor

This Halloween, I did a little improv for some of the neighbours who came trick or treating.

I had no idea what I was going to say, nor did I have any sweets to hand out… yet I was sure that they need not need to leave empty handed!

And that’s how I spent my Halloween

While great fun, this was only the start of a much bigger story for my voice, which may well be transformational. More to come soon.

Until then, here’s a little parody epic writing;, a throwback to when in school we were given this very style of assignment.

On a dark night at the crushed tail of October…

(Yesterday at about 7)

Dark forces sent deep reverberations through the oaken portal.

(Someone knocked on the door)

The startled townsfolk cowered, for this disturbance was greater than any they had yet known.

(“Who’s that?” said my friend)

The earth quaked, the air rent with the havoc of incongruent frequencies.

(They knocked again)

While cowed the people knew in their hearts that this horror could not be ignored.

(“They’ll only keep knocking,” I sighed)

A warrior, with noble heart and cords of iron faced up to this deadly foe.

(I got up)

Reaching the portal he paused, seeing through the glittering transparence, in order to appraise his opponent.

(I looked through the glass)

Over the boundary stood hulking figures, draped in darkness. The hero knew he had nothing to appease his foes, no trinket to distract, but he had his mind, and his wits.

(I didn’t have any sweets. But I had a voice.)
